Full of life, Gary touched many hearts in many ways. While in the hospital, Gary's pastor asked him for a list of things he had "done good" in order to prepare for Gary's funeral services. Of course Gary, being so modest, had trouble coming up with his own list and reached out for help.
He did many things exceptionally well during his lifetime. Here's the list we came up with:
Gary cared greatly for his family, taking care of each and every member. He always put family first.
A good father, Gary taught his children right from wrong and instilled in them the love of the Lord.
Gary helped bring stability and love to hundreds of children who needed it most. He welcomed more than 200 handicapped and underprivileged foster children into his home. If there's one thing to remember about Gary, it's his love for children and his desire to help them find their way.
Known for his true acts of kindness, Gary did the Lord's work by practicing hospitality.
Work was something Gary loved to do. In fact, he wasn't happy unless he was working on something — a car, the yard, the house, a new invention. He worked hard to provide for his family. This was his labor of love.
With everything he built, Gary set a new standard. Whether designing the world's greatest loft or making an amazing weld, Gary sought excellence in every task.
Not only was Gary intelligent, he was also wise. He quietly shared his wisdom. Sometimes, you had to listen carefully to hear it, but it was always there. He always offered words of advice at just the right moment. His patience and prodding gently pushed his children to succeed, despite moments of seemingly sure defeat.
